AIDSCare, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization bridging sickness to health, homeless to permanent housing, and poverty to self-sufficiecy for individuals and families overcoming life challenging conditions.
Since 1992, AIDSCare has been dedicated to caring for the HIV/AIDS community. Now in its 16th year, AIDSCare’s Programs have assisted over 300 homeless and low-income children, families, and adults living with AIDS to achieve stable housing, improve wellness, and transition toward greater independence.
From its inception, AIDSCare has evolved to address the changing face of the epidemic, while continuing to respond to the critical needs of population simultaneously impacted by poverty and AIDS. In 2003, AIDSCare embarked on a dramatic expansion with the construction of an $20-million, five building campus in North Lawndale, on Chicago’s West Side. Over the following two years, AIDSCare opened two new residential facilities on the campus named Garden View and Sawyer Gardens. These two buildings expanded our scope to serve families for the first time and increasing its annual program capacity from 35 individuals to up to 125 men, women, and children.
In January 2008, AIDSCare opened a 32-unit service-enhanced supportive housing residence called The Phoenix that houses homeless single adults. Unlike the first two buildings, which provide family-based housing, The Phoenix provides a residence for single, homeless adult men and women who are diagnosed with AIDS. It is also a substance-free facility that provides programs geared specifically toward assisting residents in overcoming substance-abuse issues.
AIDSCare will continue to evolve so as to address the changing face of Chicago’s AIDS crisis and effectively respond to the needs of the most vulnerable members of the city’s population. Moving forward, we will continue to look toward the future as we strive towards improving the quality of life for the individuals and families we serve. Together, we can support the HIV/AIDS community with compassion and care to create hope and strengthen lives.
